We’re very honoured that our two principal tutors Ms Yom and Ms Seo were invited to the luncheon hosted by South Korean President Moon Jae-in when he was in Singapore on Friday 13 July. Other senior educators, business-persons and professionals were also invited.
Ms Yom and Ms Seo were delighted to be able to catch the President Moon and Foreign Affairs Minister Ms Kang Kyung-wha, who were extremely generous with their time and smiles, at the event.
The pair took home more than a lifetime worth of photos and selfies with South Korean’s highest ranking office holders – they were also presented with the Moon Jae-in watch. In case you don’t know, Korean Presidents have the practice of giving away watches from Cheong Wa Dae or the Blue House (Korea’s version of the US White House). Given President Moon’s soaring popularity, coupled with a conscious effort to control the supply (and gifting) of the watch, the Moon Jae-in watch, as it is known, has enjoyed immense popularity on its own! Find out more here. Perhaps this visit will help spark off some interest in the watch here in Singapore.
Indeed, Singaporean’s love for all things Korean is also not lost on Singapore President, Mdm Halimah Yacob, who said during the occasion of President Moon’s visit, that “…K-pop and Korean dramas are very popular in Singapore, across all ages and races… Many Singaporeans even learn the Korean language so that they can watch Korean dramas!”
It was indeed a humbling experience for our two ezSAM tutors. ezSAM hopes that this visit will help to further deepen relationship, and promote more cultural exchanges between the two nations.
